This is Zia Saiyed - I would love to share with you some detail regarding Cockatiel birds.
If you are planning to buy birds I suggest you for Cockatiel Bird. This bird looks very attractive, and come in eye-catching multicolor. You have a wide selection such are Albino, Lutino, Pearl, WhiteFace, etc. I must say you love your Cockatiel when he/she will play with you.
At here I will say you that - How to Know Age of Cockatiel Bird which can help you to buy a new pet. It is a very important that you must buy a younger bird and for that, you have to know the basic detail.
Here I am sharing with you the basic detail :
- Cockatiels Bird differs from other parrots like Budgerigar in the way of determining its age. But there are some signs that may help you to know whether the bird is mature or a baby.
- Cockatiels male sing melodies with a pure voice and this indicate the maturity of the bird, but baby birds and females don't sing.
- Female cockatiels pelvic bones get wider ( you can know by touching them if you are an expert, or you can notice the distance between both legs ) when they become mature and ready to lay eggs.
- An older bird, the size of foot scales get increases.
Also, notice that the size of younger bird is smaller than a mature bird ( mature birds reach the size up to 30 cm ), and the cheek patches grow in size until they cover most of the face, and when that happens the bird is very old and you're not advised to buy.
Some other points I added :
- The crest in mature birds with a slight bending backward and young birds is short with straight feathers.
- The baby birds eye size is large and it becomes smaller as it gets older.
- Old cockatiels nails have very long bending inwards.
- Tail feathers are equal to the size of the body ( till 1 year of age ) and get longer than the size of the body starting from the age of one year.
- Young birds have bigger beaks as the beak side feathers are short, while old birds have long and small beaks as the beak side feathers cover most of its sides.
- Old birds sleep more than young ones ( may reach 17- 18 hours daily besides midday naps ).
Putting into consideration that each bird differs from the other and these rules might not apply to some birds.
